Directions to The Bowling Alley

Muir Valley
This wall is in property owned by Muir Valley. Be respectful.
Follow the directions to Rebel Branch Hollow. Then continue to the Sunnyside climbing area on the opposite side of the hollow from the Bruisebrothers Wall. Follow the old logging road past the stone steps that lead to "Machete" and "Weed Eater". Stay on the old logging road (for a couple of minutes) until it passes between a couple of large boulders and drops back down to the creek. About 20-30 yards before the creek look for a very short but steep trail uphill on your left that crosses over a large dead tree. This will quickly connect with another old logging road that contours around and into the northern entrance of Hatton Hollow. The routes will be on your left just above the road. There will probably be several more routes in the future (including a few more bouldery ones). The approach should only take 5-10 minutes from Sunnyside. Stays sunny: South facing (morning sun).Follow the directions to Rebel Branch Hollow. Then continue to the Sunnyside climbing area on the opposite side of the hollow from the Bruisebrothers Wall. we approached via hiking the creek. it was a bit long approach, but nice when we hiked out in the heat.

btw - if the parking lot in muir is packed, no one will be here. the routes in general are rather sharp and brittle.

Except for the boulder problem start of expresso, these routes are a pile.

Pulled a giant widow maker atop the 10c. Flew down and took out a few sapling on its way.

Well, that monster paragraph giving "Directions to the Bowling Alley is amusing but won't win any points with a copy editor. Whole sentences are repeated verbatim. And the directions—no, make that rambling gibberish—are ancient history. To get to this wall, follow the "Main Trail - North" to the Valley floor, cross the bridge over the creek and turn right. Follow the trail toward Bruise Brothers, and before starting up the hill note the sign "To "Sunnyside" and "Bowling Alley." Follow this trail along the creek and pay attention to subsequent signs that will lead you to the "Bowling Alley."

I also need a copy editor. Make that "Main Trail - South" instead of "Main Trail North." :-)

Those directions came from one of the bolters you scared off.

Geez, which one? There are too many to keep track of anymore. There really needs to be a 'MV Helpers Graveyard' for all the folks that have helped and contributed to Muir Valley but inevitably pissed off the Webers (and once you go to the MV Helpers Graveyard, you never come back). So Rick, since you kicked Ray and me off your land, can we please have our fixed stainless gear back from the Surf?
14
weber said on May 5th, 2014
Not true, Michelle. You and Ray have never been "kicked off our land." We did grant you and Ray a Special Vehicle Permit that you used for years before it expired last year, but neither you nor any other "MV helpers" have ever been kicked out of Muir.

Rick - the last unsolicited email you sent us pretty much said that (below). There's been a consistent pattern here: someone has a different opinion than yours, you think they're out to get you, you take it personally, and then lash out. We can ignore your emails but not public insults and lies (sorry Anonymous). This free climbing resource is built from community involvement, hard work, and our personal time and money. Be nice. "Why don't we just drop it, move our separate ways, and you needn't honor us with your godly presence in the Valley? Deal? " -Rick Weber So can I have my gear back?

Which reminds me... I think in all the hub hub, you forgot to send me my pass for this year. Understandable, you are busy!!! And for some silly reason, I am unable to post comments on the facebook page for Muir Valley. I am sure it is just a glitch though. Oh, then there was the email you sent that was "for your eyes only"... except the really, really funny thing is you were talking shit about Michelle and I and you sent to the wrong set of eyes... me, lol. So many silly mistakes on all of our parts. Maybe we should just let bygones be bygones and look to the future... I know I have.

Its funny, a fair amount of us know the actual events and history of the drama train. no matter what ya say, facts are facts....There's actually quite a few folks who busted nuts for the place that were banned , encouraged not to show or blacklisted from not only muir but sar/amga and such, just for differrnce of opinion with the powerful oz and willing to voice it. the list of supporters, some very heavily involved, that are on this list would fill a trapper keeper. You can pretend all ya want , but Michelle speaks the truth and should be listened to by all, just walk the line if you want to keep your privileges ....I've no dog in it anymore, actually comical outside looking in now, but bs is bs, especially when its about friends.

Oh come on Artsay - "you need not" equates to "you shall not"???? But there is much more afoot here... Sometimes Mr Weber can be a bit thick headed, but he didn't deserve your dirty little trick that I shall point out here. When I read that quote that you took out of context, I guessed that it was a reaction to all the pot shots you and ray have been taking at the Webers lately on your Forum - come now, we've all seen em. So I did a search to see what got Weber pissed enough to write that. And guess what folks?...All the Ellington nasty posts have recently vanished...poof! Well now, I guess when you own & manage a website, you can do some interesting things ... like maybe doctor/delete posts? If those posts were to magically reappear, it just might show who really was the ones whom made public insults to whom. Wonder how long it will be before this message also vanishes.

This has gone from being mildly amusing to completely depressing. Is the climbing around here really that boring that it's come to this?
32
weber said on May 6th, 2014
Cool it Potts there are no missing posts that I see.

Rick is right, we would never delete our posts or post anonymously. Ray said Muir had a Jurassic Park feel and it rubbed Rick the wrong way and he sent that email (I think) because he was fired up. There's a lot of history here and feel free to contact me directly anytime to discuss more. I have dedicated months of my time trying to help the Webers and it's a shame it's gotten to this. I have seen pretty terrible things in writing both Liz and Rick have said about us that's hard to forget....and many false accusations over the years that cut deep. I hope you never see this side of them, I really do. I was warned and I didn't think it could happen to me. So good luck.
35
weber said on May 6th, 2014
Michelle, you're a bit over the top and many others know that there have been "terrible things" come out your camp too. Before you set up an "ain't it awful' hotline, why don't we all take a deep breath and STOP - like right now. No, better yet, you go ahead and have the last word, then we end it. Life is too short for this silliness.
36
weber said on May 6th, 2014
Oh and as I said before, you and Ray are always welcome to climb at Muir, though I doubt you would want to now.

Reading these things from people I love and have so much respect for, frusterates me. I hoped our community was better then this and could do bigger things then rock climbing. Now realize everyone is to busy bashing eachother over the internet. I dont know the drama but as two major figures in our community.I think we can do better.

Dru -you are very right. The community doesn't need or deserve this public feud. I apologize to you and all in the climbing community. Kev's done. I'm done. Let's please move on to more positive things.

Artsay said on May 7th, 2014
Dru - I agree. And may you never experience what it's like to be targeted in this way because only then will you know where your breaking point is. Climb on!

Kev? There are medicines to help with multiple personality disorders. As someone appropriately called it, this is very high school with Weber sitting at the front of the class donning the latest swagger pocket protector and bottle thick glasses. He's the guy who consistently and without solicitation corrects the teacher at every opportunity. He seizes on each every inadvertency of his fellow students. While sitting alone at the lunch table, he finds solace in his online alter egos and the smug belief that his money would someday buy him friends. High school indeed. Thanks for calling it. Yours Truly, Bev, aka 'And Pans' - another fucking lazy member of the community
