Re: Looking to knock one off the bucket list for my birthday

Are you looking for someone to lead the route or just a partner?

Re: The ongoing weekend idiot report

So my buddy Vince was waiting to go through Nada tunnel yesterday. A few cars came through as it was very busy there. He looked to see that is was clear and began his drive through the tunnel. When he got halfway through the tunnel he saw a car with one headlight out enter the tunnel and it was dri...

Re: The Kentucky Wall

I'm stoked for what you all have done. I don't want to throw shade on it at all. I just watched Time in the Red and loved it. I know what potential is there. i walked for years along clifflines by myself. I don't know if my anti-social tendencies, or personality, or depression, or what kept me from ...

Re: The Kentucky Wall

If a list of climbs with historical anchors (tat, left nuts or what not) was compiled with photo proof. Would that be enough of a defensible item to be allowed to climb at least some of the routes at Kentucky Wall? Kentucky Wall is clear to climb. The only dispute around the wall is about a few anc...

Re: The Kentucky Wall

I'm too lazy to read this thread word for word so please forgive me if what i say is redundant. Let me offer a bit of first hand perspective from conversations with USFS personnel from back when the LAC was in process and during the threat of a widespread ban on climbing in the Gorge. The biggest is...

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing

Are the people pretentious or were you referring to pretentious horses? If the latter, then what about all of the unassuming horses? Are they lonely? Just seeking clarification. Thanks in advance. Rich people's pet horses dictate too much of what goes on in and around Lexington and everyone just fa...

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing

375k doesn't sound like such a bad price to not have meth dealers as neighbors and not have a drive to work that is literally longer than the drive from Lexington TO the red. My other neighbors are all dear family. And in fact, the meth dealers are family though not so dear. I've started referring ...

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing

Excellent comments! Like I said in an earlier post: I'm a native by birth and by choice. I'm what you call an Appalachian boomeranger. I move away--I move back. I move away--I move back. Hopefully this time its to stay, or the next time is to stay away because I don't think my wife would put up with...

Please don't take my comments as critical; simply informative. I typically only take offense to the stereotypes when committed by my fellow Eastern Kentuckians.

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing

I think getting involved in local organizations is a great first step. I also think that climbers need to get involved in local elected and appointed boards. Obviously as non-residents visitors can't be members, but going to fiscal court and city council meetings, tourism meetings, park and rec meet...

Re: Roadside Permits and Zoo Approach

Can we perhaps have an outreach campaign to gyms, university climbing clubs, etc on the group size issue and specifically concerning Roadside?

Re: Lower Gorge Access with New Road

nope, you can no longer cross the creek in your auto. Dip Wall pull off is as far as you can go. I should have clarified that as a hiker you follow the driving directions as they exist. The hiking directions have changed for Dip Wall and Muscle Beach, or at least the visuals are different due to th...
