Re: Crag recommendations with shade and short hike

Jeff, sorry to hear about the Lyme. I got bit last spring in upstate New York. Had the typical Bulls eye mark. Got the shot within 24 hrs. and came through with no other symptoms. Up north all clinics and doctors have the supper shot on hand ! I've got 2 friends up there that got it real bad. Both h...

Re: RRGCC Toilet Input Needed

I'm with Shannon on this. The RRGCC lands are not Muir Valley! Forest Service quality pit toilets are expensive to build, maintain and protect! The Southern Region and Miller Fork are a wilderness experience, Liken to the original crags of the Red in the National Forest. Imagine what would happen to...

Re: Climbing Mag's America's Top 100 Sport Routes

Sorry Greg, for the reference to your Route. I'm going to blame it on old age, memory loss, eye sight, etc.. I meant to refer to the contrived direct start, which WAS first climbed but deemed not up to par with the final bolted line. Sorry again, Climb-Safe. Mike.

Climbing Mag's America's Top 100 Sport Routes

From the cover photo, to 8 out of 100 Routes. The Red River Gorge, Ky. is a great place to call home or to visit. H'mmmm just wondering where 'Prometheus Unbound' ranked among the other thousands of Sport routes in the U.S.

Widow makers can be avoided by staying in the GYM! Welcome to the Red. Thanks for the Report, Climb-Safe.

Clif, ah yes. Bolting, cutting Holly trees for photo Ops., the trampling of Native American arch sites. Total access control by the Forest Service. 'If we own it, They can't close it'.

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

YNP1, you got me there. Certainly there is no rock being created. But you must agree there is unlimited potential for new routes (grid bolting). There are 1,000's of miles of cliff line. Much of it not even seen by modern climbers. And it's safe (National Forest) from private (RRGCC) exposure/abuse....

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

YNP1, if you don't think there is unlimited potential, you haven't seen much of the DBNF between Morehead the Breaks and the Big South Fork!

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

Cliff, it's really hard to believe in any of your understanding any of the situations in the RED! Do you really think that the climber coalition was formed because of a 'Crag Shortage' ? Seems you haven't been a part of the community very long!

Re: Breaks Interstate Park

Sorry, Boys. After I posted I noticed the possible misunderstanding. I was referring to cliffline out west of the Blue Heron area of the Big South Fork. Climb-Safe.

Re: Breaks Interstate Park

There's been climbing at the Breaks (under the radar) Since before the 90's. I'm thinking Hamsco may have had something to do with it! Just like at the Big South Fork. For you adventurers there's 1000's of feet of high cliff down there along the river going west. But you have to work to get to it. N...

Re: Guide to routes at Big South Fork

Eree, there is a developed area right out of the Blue Heron camp ground. About a 5 min. walk. Maybe 20/30 routes. Sport and Trad. There was a download for it back when it was first developed. If I can find it, I think I have the guide and the download site somewhere. I'll look for it. If you don't f...

It's still there, but you can't get there from here! Find an old guide book or an old Climber.
