Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
HA yea I literally LOL'd when I read that I obviously haven't been to those places. My first trip to the RED - spring of 1995 - I went to roadside, military, left flank and phantasia - those were pretty much the only cliffs developed with sport route at that time. If you did not climb harder than 5....

oh and a few more alternate uses of land
9. mt biking
10. adventure racing
11. leave it as a nature preserve - we don't have to develop every last bit of land for recreational use.

Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
EricDorsey - you quoted the wrong person. And Andrew - you've been around long enough know exactly what I am talking about, stop trying to spin what I am saying. This is what I am talking about: The cliffs that have one or two good climbs within people abilities are never that crowded because who wa...

Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
Can someone fill me in on what areas/walls are seening the most traffic right now. Are the crowds all from out of town elite rock stars working hard routes or is the over crowding in the moderate grade range? If it sucks so much to come to crowded cliff every weekend, will you keep coming back? If n...

Re: Project Draws: How Long is Too Long?
So if those completely different set of arbitary rules set by a precedent cause access issues and an unsustainable situation and environment, should a new precedent by made? Just becuase PD work at other areas in the US doesn't mean they are ok at the Red.

Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
Is climbing more popular in the east just because, or is it more popular because its more accessible? What makes it more accessible - gyms, nearby climbing area, amount of moderate bolted sports routes, cheap lodging and eating, etc? If route develpment at the Red stopped back in 1995, would we be h...

Re: PDs at Lode
I agree with Piggie, opening new cliffs can lead to more over crowding. Infrastructure like roads and parking lots needs to be addressed before more cliffs are open. IMO crowding is directly related to the amount of climbing available and more climbing means more climbers.

Re: Project Draws: How Long is Too Long?
I agree that your draws hung for the day is about really the most any climb needs. That's how it went for the 80% of the project climbing I did. You either sent your climb first thing hanging them and had that to spray about or you used the hanging the draws burn to brush holds and go over the moves...

Re: Project Draws: How Long is Too Long?
If i want to hang my draws on a project, I can keep them there for as long as it takes to send the route. If in that time another climber decides any one of my draws are dangerously worn, they should change it out without any regard for my property. Isn't that they way it always was Hugh? I can reme...

Re: Project Draws: How Long is Too Long?
For as long as it takes. It is up to ME not YOU to decide if the gear I am climbing on is safe! That is the whole problem with the PD debate. The people who put up the PD and the people who took them down are no different - you are both the "CREW" Both of you took the decision away from individual c...

Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
I strongly disagree with notion that we need to develop/buy more cliff line to accommodate the growing number of climbers. Eventually even the non locals will start to dislike the over crowded cliffs and seek out different area to climb at. If we keep developing new cliff line as a way to accommodat...

Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
Yeah, but the climbing is better quality on average, there's way fewer idiots, and Fayetteville kicks ass! competely agree!! I live in Columbus, Ohio and for me the drive to the Red and the New are the same distance. But what kept me coming to the Red weekend after weekend was the easy of camping/l...

Re: The crowds are not going away... So what do we do?
Agreed the New is better(imo), three reasons people don't go there:
camping is limited, expensive and sucks
when it rains you're screwed
no common hang out scene like Miguel's - Roger's is close but not really..
