Re: Muir Valley Trail Day huge success

As one of my students stated, "I now believe the pyramids were built by aliens."

That was a lot of rock.

Re: Can Big People Win Too?

I'm trying to figure out how 6 foot, 170 is considered large. I'm 6 foot, 210 and I am not exactly a hulking giant.

Re: Bolted cracks (gasp) for gear testing

Face up on Left Flank is a pretty easy route (5.8) with a decent crack, though the crack itself is not bolted, you could clip into the bolt above the crack and test the gear on the crack. Not sure it would be good for anything but the larger cams, though.

Re: Break-ins in PMRP Aug 21

Yeah, sometimes, fortunately, the thieves in E.KY aren't the brightest. Two years ago, when my car was broken into, they took the change in my console and my kids no-longer-functional DVD player. They didn't even spin the tires on my $2000+ mountain bike...

Re: Top roping... When pull the rope?

if people want to lead, i think they should start leading early. when they can top rope 10a's they should start leading 5.8s. I can get behind this opinion. Seems like a good way to do it. I would also throw in learning how to fall and minding the rope. Leading something way below your ability let'...

It's ego driven. My 6-year old already climbs better than I do, so I stopped taking her.

Re: What would you do if it's your land?

I open it to climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping but not to those that treat it like crap. It's easy to identify those folks, they are users. You will never see them at a trail day. So in order to gain access to all that climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and camping, you must show up for X-n...

Re: Take a vote

Ultimately, there is one guidebook that is used for the Red. Whatever name goes in the guide book is likely to be used for the route, regardless of who actually has naming "rights". Perhaps ask them to whom they plan on reporting the name?

One. I've had a belayer pass out on me before. (That occurance led him to get checked out and he found he had diabetes). So sure, it's a rare thing, and likely will never happen again, but it's a habit I don't mind having.

Guilty. I always have an ATC and locker on my harness when climbing. You never know when you may have to do an emergency rap down.
