Re: handsome stray PMRP

First and foremost, thank you for showing compassion to a living being that was suffering and doing something about it. Unfortunately, animal neglect/abuse/cruelty is much too common in Kentucky and the state has the most lenient laws in the United States for perpetrators of animal cruelty. "Kentuck...

Biking and Climbing

Originally posted on KyWilderness.com in July 2014. After months of talking about it, my friend Chris and I finally biked down to the Red River Gorge from Stanton for a day of climbing. We had our sights set on "Big Country" a three-pitch, 5.5 trad climb with nice exposure and a great view at the to...

Re: MFRP signs stolen

If you or someone else on the RRGCC has time, it might not be a bad idea to draft a "press release" about the theft and send it to the Lee County newspaper(s). If it is a slow week for news, and especially if you have pictures of the signs in place before they were stolen, it will probably make it i...

Re: Backcountry Camping in DBNF

That's cool you're wanting to spend a night in the "backcountry" of the Red River Gorge . . . I think a lot of people come down here and end up missing out on that aspect. But then again, you can't find what you're not looking for and some people aren't looking for waking up with a kick- @#!*% view....

Re: Hwy 715 Road Closure 6/4 to 6/6

Awesome news.

I bike through the RRG a few times a month and that section was one of the worst . . . can't wait to ride it once the work is done.

A dissertation on the merits of beating dead horses would also be a wise use of the combined intellects of this forum.

Re: From the gym to the crag: The revenge of the gumby

I agree completely with all the posts in this thread and don't really have anything to add, but I am a bit surprised that no one mentioned the importance of becoming informed about the land where you are climbing. This is important both for safety reasons (being able to clearly communicate to emerge...

Re: Status

From what I heard, a US Forest Service employee at the regional office in Atlanta is hard at work in a ninth-floor office with no windows creating a preliminary outline for a proposed draft of the climbing management plan. However, due to the government shutdown in October the project got off schedu...

Re: Gates closed and locked

jeopardize access? you mean access to the land that we own as free men? Pretty sure "free women" own some of that land, too. Just a thought. Maybe some of the true patriots in our climbing community could purchase some land and form a group akin to the Montana Freemen ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Re: FA above PPP at Wall of Denial?

Someone call Rock and Ice! I can't wait to read about this super classic, super hard trad route in our own backyard!!!! Holy Schnikies I'm excited! Personally, I enjoy reading about "adventures" . . . particularly lengthy trip report posts with pictures. Perfect example of what I'm talking about is...

Re: Gates closed and locked

I'm looking forward to loading my touring bicycle up and pedaling out Tunnel Ridge Road or Indian Creek Road and camping. Depending on how long this shutdown goes on I could be pretty spoiled by the time it ends and re-adjusting to idiot drivers on gravel roads could be quite the "culture shock". N...

Re: Climbing near natural arches

From my understanding, there are only select arches in the Daniel Boone National Forest where climbing and/or rappelling is prohibited. This includes Gray's Arch and Sky Bridge Arch (in the RRG), and Natural Arch in the southern end of the DBNF near the Big South Fork NRRA. I do not believe that the...
