Re: Lost guide book
Only a gumball takes a guidebook to the crag anyways. Everyone knows that they are just for sitting on the coffee table at home.

Re: New Bolting Hardware?
There falling out because people are too lazy to ever tighten a loose bolt, repeatedly. There have been literally at least 3000 placed now. This would largely be a none issue if people could keep a 9/16th wrench and tighten them. Also, bolts weren't being re-torqued and I suspect many not torqued t...

Re: Climbing Survey
The magnitude of this “environmental impact” needs to be quantified. Short of some endangered cliff species, I hazard to guess that driving to Red causes more environmental impact than the 20-30 feet of erosion and compaction at the base of the crag. Of the tens of thousands of cliffline in Ky, the ...

Sunnyside, Solar Collector, and Sunbeam Buttress are my go to warm weather crags. If those are busy, usually can find some peace and quiet at Bruise Brothers.

Someone unrelated, is it better to send you route info to you? One certain guide book author seems to be more interested in bouldering lately

Troy bolted them and I think there was some sort of compensation involved. That might imply a contract and thus enter into a professional relationship. Unless Troy is sitting on millions I don't know about, it would be the church with the assets that someone would go after.

Re: Is this going to be in the online guidebook anytime soon
Yes, we have been calling bolts fixed anchors long before you were climbing. A few years ago I attended a conference with experts on bolting from all over the US. It was called "The Future of Fixed Anchors" and not "The future of Bolt Clippy Thingies"

Re: Stick Clip at Muir
If you took a stick clip from Muir that didn't belong to you, I would like it back please. It was probably at Solarium/Arsenal and is a blue superclip on a black pole (no innuendo intended) covered w/ stickers. 859 seven-five-zero 9620 Gumball shouldn't leave their stick clip at a wall, if they wan...

Re: The Kentucky Wall
You don't need an impact study to open an area. Impact studies have been done. The impact study is just another way of saying no to climbing. Look around at the plethora of climbing areas in the gorge and use them as motifs to minimize impact. I am very happy to tell the professor, that you know na...

Re: The Kentucky Wall
I admire your willingness to fund raise climb2core. However, you might spend $50k+ on impact studies for a particular wall only to learn it's an early Adena Culture burial site. I recommend an approach that hits multiple walls, or the whole forest, at once. Spread the risk around. Yes, I would atte...

No, each potential crag will require an environmental impact assessment. This has not been done.caribe wrote:"
I would be willing to spearhead the fundraiser necessary to raise the $$$ to cover the study required "
The study had been done twice ... and repeated.

Re: The Kentucky Wall
Local Rangers do indeed matter. I know of at least three separate areas in ky where local ranger ethics matter. If you can get in and get it done while they are OK with it, the precedent has been set and many times it will pave the way for the future. Either that or you can sit on your ass and wait ...
