Re: Climbing Survey

The magnitude of this “environmental impact” needs to be quantified. Short of some endangered cliff species, I hazard to guess that driving to Red causes more environmental impact than the 20-30 feet of erosion and compaction at the base of the crag. Of the tens of thousands of cliffline in Ky, the...

Re: Is this going to be in the online guidebook anytime soon

Oh right, I forgot we call every "bolt" an anchor now. That must have happened in the last week or so.
Even Merriam Webster knows! Anchor: 8. mountaineering : a fixed object (such as a tree or a piton) to which a climber's rope is secured.
Never said it was incorrect, just not typica...

Re: Is this going to be in the online guidebook anytime soon

Rule #22. The Cathedral Domain requires that all climbers must use a clip stick to the first anchor before beginning any climbing route. Stick clip to the First set of anchors? That's a long stick clip and does that mean there is multi pitch routes? Yes, there is 2 bolt anchor every 10 feet which m...

Re: New Route Bailing Device

So, while you're hanging off one, non-redundant bolt, you can accidentally unclip it when the wire gets snagged. A perfect death trap. I would think from the design it wouldn't be able to come unclipped while loaded. Though the gate could be open which isn't good. And I agree YNP1, pretty creative ...

New Route Bailing Device

Run for the hills, every gumby getting a hold of one of these will be hangdogging your project for eternity! Everyone should probably just switch to Trad.

Re: Good routes for practice falls

Does the grade change the fall some how? A local gym, if you have one, is a good place to take some practice falls. Then go to the Red to crush your projs with nerves of steel. Or like me, bring your nerves of yarn and hope they get strong.
