Climbing horror.

Apropos of the season, was looking into renting a good scare flick and ran across The Descent- a horror movie about a spelunking expedition. This got me thinking... Do you suppose a credible horror movie could be made about a rock climbing expedition? Conditions: the whole movie takes place during t...

Re: Drone Filming - Yey? Ney?

You should build it up to LOOK like a giant wasp. Or maybe a giant hairy wolf spider. That would be youtube GOLD.

Re: Helmets or not?

Just finished belaying a buddy one time, and lowered him. We were standing there chatting as he started to pull the rope. Then he looked up and a rock about the size of a pack of cigarettes hit him right in the forehead, below the rim of the helmet. Knocked him clean out for about 10 seconds. Took t...

Re: Helmets or not?

Well said Ascensionist, I was trying to figure out a way to say the same thing without taking away from the rec to wear a helmet. Significant rockfall will go through a helmet like butter- a helmet is good, but learn to stand out of the way!

Re: Long easy trad

Yeah, I hesitated a little before suggesting that one, but if there is a route that will win a person over to climbing, that is it. The first time I did it, my largest cam was a 4. Spent the whole pitch just waving it around in the crack and whimpering.

Re: FA above PPP at Wall of Denial?

Mark; I don't think I could stretch this into that big of an adventure... The worst of it was getting through the briars at the top. I look like someone through a running blender at me. There's about 8ft. of interesting climbing to pull the roof. But the cost of getting to it is low, and the view at...

FA above PPP at Wall of Denial?

At Wall of Denial Saturday, we were on the ledge above PPP and I think 11.11. On the right, there's a stack of blocks up to a small roof, then a wide dihedral with a handcrack to the top. It looked fun so we did it. I don't see anything in the guidebook on this, and based on the loose rock/lichen/ve...

Re: Dog bark collar at Lower Small Wall

It was hanging from a tree branch yesterday just to the right of where the approach trail meets the wall. We saw it on the way up and talked about taking it to Mig's on the way down but totally forgot it was there.

Re: Rescue at Pistol Ridge

Yeah, I thought those guys were mostly climbers themselves. The news always seems to put an anti-climbing slant on these things ("look at those fools!"), but the guy they interviewed seemed to be playing right along.

Re: Quantum Physics

Well the Nobel prize winner this year figured out how to tell if schroedinger's cat is alive or dead. This will lead to quantum computing which will be a great or dreadful discovery depending on who's using it. As far as greatest so far... first thing that comes to mind, lasers?
