Re: Climbing Survey

Access raises awarensss but also has an impact. This is nothing new. For example, the National Park Service has a complicated 100 year history of balancing protection with outreach and education. Does climbing produce new environmental stewards? I believe the answer is “yes.” Can climbers have a neg...

Re: Motherlode Hill

Coal Bank grading alone will do little until a drainage issue is addressed. RRGCC land management has visited Coal Bank with road crew and dozer operator in last couple weeks. Plan in works.

Re: Gear

And if you want to be extra safe, wear a harness.

Yes, I actually saw a guy without a harness last year belaying his kid at PMRP. He some how attached an ATC to a Charlie Brown Christmas hemlock. Not recommended.

Re: FS Road 9B status

Hiked out to Purple Valley one weekend around Thanksgiving. Saw a couple hunters at the new-and-improved Muscle Beach campground, plus a few locals just past the 9A-9B split. Didn’t see anyone else. Granted, it was freezing that day, but doubt you’ll need to work too hard to hide your ride. Looks li...

Re: Pebble Beach OW Right of Ju-Ju

It must get a fair amount of traffic. I saw people on it this spring, and again this fall. Seems like a nice little intro to OW, especially since can be TR'd off its neighbor's anchors.

Re: RRGCC Toilet Input Needed

"i'm still a little baffled why after some 15 years of negotiating with the forest service for access that founding principle has been abandoned." For the past few years, the RRGCC has been involved in discussions with Forest Service officials to secure additional climbing access within DBNF. By “di...

Re: Belaying while Pregnant

Some friends shared a wall with a very pregnant belayer a few years ago. Looking pale and exhausted, the belayer began stating she felt light headed. My friends yelled at the climber to go direct into a bolt while they swapped out belays. She sat in the shade sipping water for a while before feeling...

Re: Do you Kroger?

Quick bump for Kroger Community Rewards and Amazon Smile. If you regularly use PMRP/MFRP trails, yet couldn't make trail day, Kroger and Amazon make easy ways to help out.

Re: Climbing in KY State Parks

The Access Fund lobbies too. Zach was involved in the recently announced opening of climbing at Breaks Interstate Park. While it’s not climbing in a Kentucky State Park per se, climbing at a state owned park in Kentucky is a start. Zach, along with others at AF, also have been working on opening to ...
