Re: RRGCC Toilet Input Needed
Shannon, thank you for your work, first of all! Trowels are useful and responsible pooping is important. Personally, I carry a wag bag in addition to a trowel for when a suitable digging site is not convenient. Sure, with proper education the gorge could sustain burying waste for a long time. Howeve...

Re: RRGCC Toilet Input Needed
Thanks for you work, folks. Poop has to be dealt with sooner or later. The Gorge, both private and public, is our playground, our backyard, and I certainly don't want poop spread all over my backyard.

Re: Attention New School climbers
I take it you fulfilled your role as an experienced mentor by kindly approaching these uneducated and inexperienced climbers to help them understand the importance of respecting other climbers at the crag and generally appropriate ethics. If so, thank you for your service. They will look back fondly...

Re: Climbing this weekend, 9/19 and 9/20
Most popular moderate areas should be relatively busy. Be friendly and chat up some of the other climbers. Let them know you're learning. Don't be intimidated to ask questions or get others' opinions. Always double check your systems, keep the difficulty mellow, and HAVE FUN!

Meru Film in Lexington
I saw Meru last night at the Kentucky Theater in downtown Lexington. I highly recommend the film for not only the adventure story but also the incredible firsthand footage and the depth of the story involving death, risk, and recovery. It is also fun to see it at that classic theater! Go check it out!

Re: Petzl Frieno for sale
FWIW, I really like these carabiners. They are small and rarely get side-loaded because of the shape. The twist-lock is easily operated single-handedly. The hook is excellent for lowering a follower from the top, and can also be used for extra friction in a traditional ground TR belay. The cons incl...

Re: Getting my feet wet at the Zoo
Last September a friend and I went for a quick afternoon session at the Zoo. A storm was brewing as we left the trail head and the creek was ankle high. We could even rock hop. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as we reached the wall, the skies opened up for a downpour and lightning storm. It rained for...

Re: RRGCC/AF Joint Member Information
I want to pick your brain(s) and start some discussion out of curiosity. I've seen this joint membership option in the past, but have not pulled the trigger on it yet. Having moved from TN, I'm used to the Southeastern Climbing Coalition membership model with some tiered membership levels + addition...

Re: closed carpet store info?
I'm actually in school with the grandson of the man who owned and ran it. From what I've gathered, it was the local carpet shop for many years before the owner died (before climbing was big at Muir). It's still owned by the family, though obviously not used anymore. It was very cool to learn some st...

Re: Forest Road 9B to be Closed Soon
Thanks for posting that newsletter. I, for one, am very pleased to see the initiative to restore natural waterways and improve water quality. I'm more than happy to sacrifice a few months of accessible climbing at a few crags for that improvement. Hopefully, the project is quick and successful! Hope...

Re: New Main Trail System at Muir is Open
Thanks for another improvement, Rick and all the volunteers and supporters. Muir is better maintained than most all public parks!
