Re: Can Everyone Climb 5.14?

I haven't climbed 14a, but I will. It's not an if, it's a when. I have yet to find a plateau that doesn't have a somewhat obvious bypass. But the first step is always going to be believing. If you don't have that, forget it. As far as not having enough time to commit to training, I'm gonna call bull...

Re: Can Everyone Climb 5.14?

One-Fall asked me to respond to his question on here, and after reading all the responses, I realized how hard the question really is... or how easy it is... not sure which. In short, No. Not everyone can. Of course there will be extreme examples that will always lead to a "no" answer when asked if ...

Re: The other side of training...

I'm sure it's different for everyone. For me, 4 or 5 days off after several weeks of 3 days a week bouldering can mean a jump in power. My endurance is so overtrained that I'm not sure it ever goes away... I just forget how to use it after months of bouldering. 2 or 3 sessions and it's back to norma...

Re: Cumming to the Red in Oct!

We don't want yer type here boy. Stay in CO where all you have is hard moves and no endurance, blocky limestone and bullshit mountains.

If you MUST come, go to Purgatory. Nobody goes there cuz the whole place is a chosspile. And I hope you climb 13b, cuz all the routes in the Red are 13b.

It was good. She got more and more comfortable as the night went on, and gave a good show. Great photos, and a good concept: Princess Tactics.

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

I remember reading something about alex huber not actually sending the pitch, but after falling, lowering to a no-hands and finishing. I also think I read that Yuji was the first to do the entire pitch clean? Thomas Huber tried to do 19 but couldn't, and I seem to remember a story about a guy who di...

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

I also was thinking about the freeclimbing history, which is why I chose the Salathe. Was it not the first free route on the main wall? For me, that trumps Freerider and the Nose. Everything I've ever read says that the Salathe is the better quality route, and the first free ascent story is far more...

ynp1 wrote:Why is french freeing the salathe more historical? Not that pushing the salathe would not be a fun and BIG day.
If you can't see why The Salathe is the more historical of the two routes, you should go back to Yosemite and ask around.

I know that the traverse into the MO is 11d... are you sure that isn't what the topo indicates?

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

I have no delusions about an onsite. Its just the last in a short list of long routes i'd like to do eventually. Frankly, I might be more psyched to do a french free or mostly free ascent of the original Salathe, just for the historical aspect.

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

Dustonian, I disagree. I found Valley cracks (and JTree cracks) to be quite a bit easier than advertised. Maybe I just like granite. Maybe learning the grades in Vedauwoo helped with the transition. Regardless, my hardest flashes back in the day when I sucked at climbing were in the valley and jtree...

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

And isn't the Monster Offwidth pitch only 10d or 11a or something? Surely a hardened yosemite veteran like yourself can't still be afraid of offwidths??

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

Rockclimbing is rockclimbing. Sorry if I don't share in your delusions that 5.12 cracks are harder than 5.12 sport. Frankly, I would venture the opposite. I also apologize that I don't find you any cooler because you can hang in aiders and erector set your way up a wall. Fat guys and grandmas can do...

Re: Free Big Wall Freeclimbing Slideshow in Cincy

The 5.14 goal is first on the list, so in a few years. I can do that when I'm old.
