Re: The anatomy of a overused crag?

True about some newbies coming out of the gym climbing harder that I ever have or will. I don't claim to have the answers, but nothing is going to change unless something gets started somewhere. I don't think the world will end if we were to choose not to develop easy routes. If nothing changes in a...

Re: The anatomy of a overused crag?

Here's my thoughts (such as they are) New climbers are by nature beginners. They will seek easy routes. The higher the concentration of routes, the more newbies will come. They will bring more newbies. I'm thinking the less beginners are catered to, the less likely they are to show up more than a fe...

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

How 'bout we find land owners willing to lease the land for - say five years. We go in and tear the shit out of the place from the start. Scorched earth. Barren wasteland within 60 feet of the cliff line. Really lower expectations. Climb like hell on it for five years and leave it to whatever nature...

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

Piggy,

Are you trying to limit this discussion to the immediate problem at hand? I was so hoping we were looking at the bigger picture.

I'm rarely ever part of the problem. I'm usually the whole damn thing.

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

I don't read the climbing rags, so I'll ask... Short of an ad for the access fund, do the magazines address these sorts of access and overuse issues? Do they ever print a "how to not be a douche at the cliff" article? Do the professional climbers that tour all the various outdoor venues ever step up...

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

If you let everyone climb the slabs over this summer, it should be eroded enough to make all the starts 5.12. Then, maybe, nobody will want to climb there.
