Mandatory, enforceable permits? Fifteen permits per day at Roadside?

Rick

Pssst. It sounded like an off the cuff number, ultimately being set by what the owners feel is good.

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

I may be wrong, but that doesn't sound like something the team would do.

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

Mentors would be great, but the big problem to solve is getting people to care about the wilderness. Far too many of these "climbers" think that since they aren't indoors that anything goes.

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice

Wasn't the "Roadside Access Model" being touted a few threads back?

Re: Climbing Accident in Muir

Not invalidating. That's why I said seeing the videos would be nice. I'm not going to take much of anything on faith here. Just looking for answers. I've used a gri-gri since they first came out. I've never, never, ever had anything go wrong. So, I'd just like to see your methods of testing. But, if...

Re: Climbing Accident in Muir

Well, I ain't been right since I got kicked by that mule. Maybe you can answer this...if you can remember when the rope was allowed to slip freely through the gri-gri ... was the belay hand near the hand that was grabbing the climber's end of the rope, or was the belay end of the rope just laying on...

Re: Climbing Accident in Muir

I'd have to see the videos. Until then, I'm going out on a limb and calling bullshit. I see no way that in a real life fall that someone could stop a gri-gri from engaging by simply grabbing onto the ascending side of the rope. Firstly, who is strong enough to actually hold that thin of an object du...

Re: Climbing Accident in Muir

How close to the belay device was the knot tied? Right on it, or arms length? What color was the rope? What was the relative humidity?

Was there a fireball with the exploding gri-gri?
