The big block at the top of the dihedral is the diamond.

ynot is correct. A topo is pretty critical if you want to make a more or less direct approach from Chimney Top Road.

Wonder if there might be a lesson here. How is it almost everytime I read an article in a general interest magazine or a newspaper, on a subject that I really know something about, they always seem to get it wrong? Kind of makes you wonder how often anything you read is credible, doesn't it?

Back in the '70s we always approached from Chimney Top Road. If you don't mind wacking some bushes you can follow the admitedly indistinct ridge that leads from the road to Jewel Pinnacle, and keep your feet dry.
