Re: It's time to redevelop the Red...

It's not redevelop. It's grow a pair and man up for real climbing. Not the pussified drill your way up. There are many routes to do in good style. Stay in thy gym, pussy. If you want to fly with the eagles you need to do so in good style. Only those who are worthy may do so (those have put in the bl...

Re: How cold is too cold for you guys?

To me it depends on a lot of variables like humidity, sun exposure, wind, temp, elevation, rock temp (will the rock warm in sun on cold day? some do a lot) and dew point. If the the humidity is low, sun is out, wind is down below 5mph and elevation is high you can be in a t-shirt at 30 degrees and e...

Re: Spiny Norman

I think I did Friable one day if it is that huge layback rounded flake looking crack to a roof. I was not willing to to go left and top it out from there so I down climbed the entire thing. It is kind of confusing what is what.

Re: Are there many snake encounters while rock climbing?

I almost stepped on a Copperhead up at Muscle Beach. I had my guidebook out looking for routes and walking along a faint trail. It was kind of a weird moment and it seemed like someone knocked my book out of my hands. I leaned over to pick up the book and a very large Copperhead was in the middle of...

Re: Dam... Beavers

Here is more info on designing a low water crossing with concrete blocks. I know how to design these and could help out if a low water crossing is desired. http://www.conteches.com/Knowledge-Center/PDH-Credits/PDH-Article-Series/Low-Water-Crossing-Design.aspx http://www.conteches.com/Our-Company/New...

Re: Glue-in bolt testing

Don't use the capsule type epoxy application. We did have much luck with this method on a construction project. Can't get a good mix / user error is huge.

Re: Glue-in bolt testing

In the construction industry where this type of epoxy is utilized the most, they typically claim a 20 year life expectancy on the epoxy but you won't find this printed anywhere. To remove the epoxy anchors you just have to heat up the bolt and twist. I think they are great in most applications. They...

Re: 0 for 2 with Climbing Guides

I did talk the CA guide into lowering me down 200ft for the money pitch on the Third Pillar. It wasn't all bad. One heck of a toprope with the wicked exposure all the way down to Mono Lake.

0 for 2 with Climbing Guides

I have now tried twice to hire a guide for a climb and both have been disasters. The last two times I have tried, both chickened out. One guide started on the descent down to the base of a popular CA alpine climb and said no way. The descent scared him too much. I think it was the un-roped vertigo t...
