Re: Miguels raising money for steel

Michelle - When I look at the big picture and put myself in yours and ray's shoes, I completely agree. RRO said it best - this is just part of the growing pains the Red is going through as we enter into a "world class status". I just hope everyone sees the long term big picture and precedents being ...

Re: The ongoing weekend idiot report

Ignore this if it was already posted.

Check out this video and take a close look at the belayer - all his fault. And the guy with the camera is more concerned that he, "got that on video man" than if the climber is hurt.

Re: Miguels raising money for steel

Artsay - this issue isn't how far the climbers fell or what factor fall it was, its that fact that they did it to begin with. It's that we feel we need to protect those idiots from themselves. It goes back to the discussion of dumbing down rock climbing to the lowest common idiot. Making that specif...

Re: Miguels raising money for steel

There are 'some' routes that require fixed draws (the madness cave) so tell me what routes you plan on "fixing" before I give you any of my money?! It seem the community is a bit divided on this subject but most agree that certain route warrant fixed draws. If you are going to ask for money for new ...

Re: Financial Support for Climbing from Climbers: The Proble

KD - I like what you are getting at. If they bolt it, they will come....and in masses they did! Your solution, although sadly unrealistic, would probably fix the problem. We probably should start a new thread...money and trail days won't fix this problem.

Re: Winter Trail Day? Would you be in?

Just curious if there are ever trail days at crags in the DBNF anymore? I've been to Long Wall and Wall of Denial recently and both trails can use some love.

Re: Financial Support for Climbing from Climbers: The Proble

dustonian - I too have been climbing at the Red since 1995, we probably know each other if maybe only by face. I took no offense, I learned years ago not get offended from post on this board. Yet thank you for that sincere apology. What I do get emotionally wrapped up in is my love for the Red River...

Re: Financial Support for Climbing from Climbers: The Proble

Thanks for trying to stick up for me pigsteak. Yet I would rather people think I am some short newbie that never gives back than they learn who I am or any history. As it is, I learned again that it is a major SIN to be even slightly critical of Muir Valley or the Weber's approach to managing climbe...

Re: Financial Support for Climbing from Climbers: The Proble

I hear you bcombs but tell me how more money will help? Money will get things paid for and will help the Weber's feel better about letting climbers destroy their private property but it is not going to change climber's behavior. Back before the PMRP was purchased, the RRGCC was doing a gym talk tour...

Re: Financial Support for Climbing from Climbers: The Proble

I am not sure I see it that way. Seems the more we give the more "they" build and develop and the more those "stubborn" college kids come and cause all the problems. "If you build it they will come", is a very real phenomenon. I am committed to finish what we started by financially contributing to p...

Re: Financial Support for Climbing from Climbers: The Proble

I choose to give financially because these days, the few times I am able to make it down to the Red, I would rather climb....although recently I made a route contribution to the PMRP. And I gave more money when I was making less. Ok so this is going to sound bad BUT.... Given that the Red seems to b...
