Re: Perma-Draws!!!!

Give me a day, a little bit more training and a stick clip and I can have the entire undertow wall cleaned in time for pies and pints at Miguel's. The ONLY routes that can't reasonably be cleaned a the lode are routes in the madness cave.

Re: Rap vs. Lower

I don't care what way you do it - you can hand over hand down the rope - just please stop getting hurt while climbing so the crags can remain open for at least one more year.

Re: Question for the CC

Why are the board members not directly elected by climbers? This is a straight question that deserves a straight, simple, answer. Here it is - RRGCC Board members are not directly elected by climbers because the original founders of the RRGCC chose to use the "non-membership" model in setting up th...

Re: Missing some brain cells

Someone climbed a route at the Red and had to hang their own draws? I bet he was over 40 and was wearing Jrat knickers and his belayer was using a figure 8 and it was probably some forgotten route at Purple Valley. And yeah what a total douche for skipping the last moves and not actually doing the r...

Re: Saturday's Accident at PMRP

"Actually, the top-roping isn't what does it because, for the most part, the rope isn't weighted. It's actually the lowering that wears the gear out." ~ I couldn't let that one go - as you guys like to say. Last time I top roped, I weighted the rope, in fact every time I top rope I weight the rope.....

Re: Quickdraws on 'Zen and the Art of Masturbation'

It's amazing how long my personal draws last now that I never use them. I miss the days when only half the Undertow Wall was fixed. I was guaranteed to have half the routes with no one on them. So what routes at the lode are not fixed? In case my old crusty ass ever makes it back there, I want to k...

Re: Saturday's Accident at PMRP

I have to agree with Bentley and others - lowering is usually the best idea. If you are climbing to usual routes at the Red they are over hanging and cleaning them on rapel will be a hard. Some people started this stupid rant about rapell cleaning a few year ago. Excessive wear on anchors is usually...

Re: How unsafe is climbing?

I am with Andrew - is use to seem safer than driving a car. A quick answer to all the accidents is due to the increase in total numbers of climbers - I think there is way more to it than that. "Decking" was not an option when learned to climb...kinda like the old school trad ethic of the leader shal...

Re: Perma-Draws!!!!

So why is it that sport climbers are so lucky to clip perma-draws - including routes that are under 5.12 - while those trad climbers gotta place all their gear on lead? All you generous people with cash should consider showin some love to the traddies and fix some gear on those crack climbs they lov...

Re: Saturday's Accident at PMRP

I disagree, once I say off belay, its all on me, my belayer takes me off and is free to do what ever he or she wants. It's my responsibility to figure out if the ropes are down, if my rope has a middle mark and I know how high off the ground I am. to do the math, its my responsibility to figure out ...

Re: Perma-Draws!!!!

Awesome post Mike - I especially like the part about spending money on the RRGCC, access fund, team suck, etc - much much better spent. I was recently talking to a friend about routes she is projecting at the Lode. I suggested she get on Stained as it is one of my favorites. She responded that she w...

Re: Perma-Draws!!!!

THB - Again, I am all for perma-draws where they are necessary. Yet to add perma's just to keep people from getting over their heads is the wrong reason. As I said, a stick clips can get you out of any situation with just a little creativity. Remember there is a big difference between prema-draws an...
