There is so much talk about the evolution of gear, and the advancement of climbing technology, why is this even a discussion? The stick clip is an evolution of climbing technology, from sport climbing, and should be regarded as such. If someone fell because they were wearing crappy old shoes or not ...

throwing a name or number only solidifies it.

What's the deal with people not wanting to stick clip? Since the first time I went climbing without one, it's seemed like a no-brainer to always have one. I get the idea of knowing your limits and not doing a move you couldn't downclimb, but holds break, skin tears unexpectedly, feet slip, belayers ...

I think there's at least three or four videos of people climbing RO on youtube. It might help to watch them.

Rhunt, So if you place your gear too quickly and efficiently then the route magically turns into something else? What if you're just really, really super good at spotting a placement for your favorite cam, and you slap it in there without hesitation... while onsighting. Does that make it a "gear ons...

I read the article, and I think it's very insightful in a self indulgent/elitist sort of way. IMO, trad climbing is, by definition climbing over removeable gear. Regardless of how you got to the point where you placed your piece and kept on climbing, it's still trad climbing. To think that the old s...

Not the same category as "normal trad"? A "gear protected sport line"? WTF? I thought the distinction was wether or not the line was bolted, that's it. The style and tactics used by the FA does not change the nature of the route, this is retarded. From what I've heard, Horatio top-roped the piss out...

I've seen people tie a second belay loop into their harness with a short piece of cord or webbing, then put the biner through both. Seems like a good idea, and would eliminate the possibility of cross-loading the biner.

Question: Where is the closest liquor store to the Red? I am not a big beer drinker, or wine or Zima drinker, and I hate making a 5.5 hour road trip with a half gallon of whiskey in the back of my jeep. Is there anywhere remotely close or convenient that I could stop to get some hard liquor before I...

I agree with toad, To defy the laws of tradition is not that great. Go do Pogue Ethics at Phantasia, definitely not a 10b, but the start might be a bit harder than 9+.

Has "Charlie" at the chocolate factory been repeated? The comments in the online guide are a bit confusing- 4 people in the FA party- does that mean it's unrepeated or ripe for the fifth ascent?

I agree, there should also be a picture of the shirt, examples of the prizes for comp winners- something that makes you say "That looks like fun!" or "I want that!"
