Re: Are there many snake encounters while rock climbing?

I only came close to grabbing a copperhead while actually climbing a route once. (It was on the start of Ruby Slippers at the Emerald City, the snake was inside a deep slot, and I would not have seen it, before grabbing the slot, but fortunately I was too short to reach for it. One of the few times ...

Re: Flat hollar parking is done!

Awesome! Hopefully it will cut down on the number of cars parked randomly along the road. On a related subject, I forget, what's the deal with the large muddy Motherlode parking "lot", where the grassy flat area used to be? Is there a reason it, too, couldn't be "improved" a bit with couple trucklo...

I vote we leave the beavers and the Wheatleys, and relocate the anchors. To a spot where they can be stick-clipped from the ground, preferably.

Re: Dam... Beavers

Fyi, some beavers built a dam just down stream from the creek crossing that gets you into Miller. The dam raised the water level two feet making the deep part about 3 feet deep. Despite what Ray says, his brotastic truck wasn't going to make it across unless the dam was breached and the water level...

Ouch! Do I look like an idiot who would name her dog Isabella, or go to Solar Collector on a weekend?

Re: I’m a “local”

By the USDA’s standards, living within a 300-mile radius of the RRG is local. By Bobby "Buck Wild" Grigsby’s standards, an indigenous Appalachian and four-wheel enthusiast, you’re a yankee. Before you act like a jackass and claim to be a “local”, think about how people in Slade and the much smaller...

Re: Ticked Off About Tick Marks

Sounds like *someone* is upset because he blew his onsight by trusting a tickmark... Yeah, wiping a tickmark off will REALLY improve the look of the rock. It will make people magically not notice the giant CHALK patches over every hold. i have a better idea: everyone should follow my example and sto...

Re: Is beg. of November a good time to climb in Red River Go

Is beginning of November IN GENERAL a good time to climb at the Red? Sure. Is this particular November? Well, the dates are close enough that you can see the weather forecast for yourself: http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USKY1339:1:US I see 5 nice days, couple crappy days, and some uncertainty...

Re: The ongoing weekend idiot report

Also Military Wall on Saturday, the left of the two 5.9s. After a few false starts, a guy climbs to the second bolt, hangs the draw on the second bolt, and asks for a slack. He is obviously a new climber, but he looks solid enough, with good feet and a gigantic jug for a hand, no Elvis leg or desper...

Re: The ongoing weekend idiot report

It is the fall season. Time to bring the thread back? On Saturday at the Military wall (yeah, what was I thinking?) we were packing up at the end of the day in the Minimum Creep/Nicoderm area when two people showed up to climb Danita Dolores as their last climb of the day. The guy climbed it quickly...

Re: So, how busy was it, really?

Misquote... I didn't write that. Nonetheless, I do know that a very large number of people choose to go to Muir not only because of the easy routes but also because parking is safer, the road is better, and they don't want to take the risk of driving down to the PMRP with a nice car and big load of...
