Re: KY Ice

Nice! The biggest Kentucky ice that I've seen photos of was from the winter of '78-'79, or thereabouts, when Pearsall lead a big column on the Kentucky River Palisades. Of course, nothing ever lasts for long around there. :( Ditto here, same great winters here,,,the biggest ice and snow seasons her...

Re: KY Ice

More ice Super ! We used to climb thin smears of ice here in IL at Starved Rock State Park back in the 80's,,but they closed off all those canyons with seeps,,afraid our tools would permanently damage the soft sandstone beneath it. Had some epic routes, leads on the shortest screws available back t...

Re: LOST Slackline at Miguel's

Posted up at Mountain Project,, just saw their link to here...I saw it under the table all afternoon and evening,,,of Saturday I thought, maybe Sunday. Asked a Migs staff member if they were now selling slacklines, she said 'No, so informed them of the lost item. It was put in a bag back into the Cl...

Re: Also Found at Muir Valley

Bruise is chaos!!....people come in, dump gear, move to another climb 40 ft away,,then others arrive and cover up half of your stuff, you try to move, get out of the way, leave the area as soon as you can and it's easy to leave stuff behind. Organize. Keep gear together, or back in your pack when it...

Re: News re Muir Valley

I know money doesn't grow on trees, but you can't do any other activity for $10 per day per person. If you can't afford that, drive to the nearest national park that allows climbing and see how much that costs. Gee whiz, just pay the $10 and be darn glad to have such a wonderful place to climb so c...

Re: Camping - Miguel's? Lago Linda? Elsewhere?

It sounds like this is a first trip? Definitely go to Miguels, the center of the universe. Great food, cheaper camping, tons of open space out back to choose a secluded tent site if you want. For your climbing needs, it sounds like you would prefer going down to Muir Valley to start...they have put ...

Re: USFS Ticketing on Bald Rock - help needed

Yup, nothing the county or area need to do more important than to discourage tourism and land use, people who spend money in area, etc. Senseless it sounds. Is there a new administration of the forest service behind this?

Re: Is a 142ft rope too short for climbing? - beginner

Lots of noob's don't intend to start on a 90 ft climb anyway. So a 'short rope' is often used, various sizes, 142 ft sounds fine, IF the rope is in good condition. Lots of 40-50 ft. starter climbs that the rope would work fine for. I hate hauling along the extra weight if I know my day is going to b...

Re: Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow (Weather help)

Weather has been soooo $%&* up this year...I'm 420 miles north , and had a day of 50mph winds, 50 temps, 2 inches of rain, on top of our 18 inch snowpack. Down in KY this current weekend, I'm hearing it is nice in low 70's Sat-Sunday!! last year at RRR in late March it was freezing nights, and cold ...

Re: miguels looking for help

Hey, I don't see a post anywhere here or at Migs pages...so I'll ask here. Does anybody know the date for certain of the spring Red River Reunion fest? My guess is 22nd or 29th of March weekend? Hopefully into April for better weather,,it was soo cold last year at event,,,,,down jacket days and nigh...

Re: how's the road?

My cars have never been able to do the Motherlode hill without a crash and firey death. What is the status of parking atop the hill along side the road, or up on slope, away from the oil pumper? Still off limits? I used to park up there in a small pull out with no problems years ago, but then there ...

Re: New Main Trail at Muir Valley

Looks great!! I remember looking down that drop-off last fall when crawling, scouting out the newly carved trail and imagining the stairs job ahead. Leave it to Purdue,,school of engineering I trust was involved in this effort?? Nice nice work! And for those who haven't seen the new trail, it is so ...

Re: Rocktoberfest trail building clinic?

New trail Drew is doing at Muir is set really nice. Climbers will be very pleased with the results. Hope he gets some help soon on that stair project in good weather ahead this next month!
