RQClimber, You are right--I meant inexperienced or gumby climbers (of which we all were at one time). I stand corrected.

There is nothing inherently wrong or dangerous about grigri's. What people are describing is a correlation (which does not equal causation) between people who use grigri's and inexperienced gym climbers. I learned to belay on an ATC and I started to use a grigri when belaying heavy people who are "w...

rumors

I hate to add to rumors about someone falling, so let me clarify that this info is hearsay. We were at Torrent on the day and talked to this guy a little bit while we were on Bandoleer. We heard him fall from the ten wall on the other side of Torrent and then heard a lot of screaming, saw the ambula...

SikMonkey, I was just trying to be helpful by answering his question. You Think Chainsaw and Kick Me in the Jimmy go in 1 or 2 tries for an 11d climber? He asked for fun climbs to project. So I offered some ideas.

Bare Metal Teen at Torrent and Gung Ho at Military are good 12.a's to project.

Who does the "freeze--thaw" thing?

My hands froze on Friday to the point of total numbness (more than once) while I was trying to climb my project. Most people's response to cold weather, cold rock, (and me complaining about numb hands) is: "it's perfect conditions dude! I wish it was 20 degrees colder!" Question one: are the...

I've used Rock and Resole (Boulder, CO) for 10 years. They turn your shoes around in 2 days after they receive them--so, it always takes 1 week or less. The resole is better than the originals that come with the shoes. The resoles from this place are PERFECT every time. Just call information or look...

Chainsaw

Which hold do you clip the last bolt (before the chains) on Chainsaw Massacre from? There is a small right hand with a sharp point on the side, or one higher for your right that is a little bigger. Do people generally clip with their left hand here (passing under the right hand)?

I wouldn't mind a cheap (under 10 bucks) place to camp that is not a total swamp. High ground is the way to go-- :) I am tired of cleaning mud off my tent when I get home from the Red. But, I wouldn't pay to sleep in a cabin (or some bunkhouse full of stinky climbers and their pets).

Hey JR--are you saying it's FUNNY when the route changes (becomes terribly difficult--by holds becoming smaller and morphing into pieces of slimy crap that are miles apart from each other) and leaves your sorry ass hanging on every freakin bolt. "The only thing you have to say after that is--"this u...

Ro Shampo is a 12a when you are not trained up and do not have it wired. It becomes an 11d once you are more familiar with the route and are not WEAK from half-ass training. Or, if you are tall, it is probably a little easier than if you are 5'3 and below.

The New River Gorge

Does anyone know of any fun, STEEP 5.11's (or easy 12's) at The New? I am going there for the first time in a couple of weeks. The only thing I've heard about it is that "it's too technical and not steep enough" from people who climb at the Red.

RAIN

Could somebody please do something about this rain? I need to get back into shape after my ankle surgery last winter...but sliding out of these holds isn't much of a workout! Is anything dry in the Gorge?
