Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

We raised $7005 pre paypal fees, and about $6700 after. This combined with developer contributions will allow us to purchase over 1000 SS 5 piece bolts and 500 wave glue ins.

Thanks to those who supported the Vday fundraiser, it was a huge success!

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

1.) No posts have been changed to alter any facts. 2.) The Fixed Gear Initiative has not acted as catalyst to developing more rapidly. 2010- 87 routes 2011- 72 routes 2012- 156 routes 2013- 272 routes (Miller Fork Purchase) 2014- 223 The RRG FGEI had our first fundraiser for SS bolts at the end of N...

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

Despite asking several times, so far I have heard NO specific vision or any actionable ideas that could be implemented. Clif, how would you change and improve developing? Be specific And for the record, as Dustin stated, bolting will occur whether this initiative exists or not. The community is not ...

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

1- you can piss off who ever you want 2- the people that want that romantic adventure have literally tens of thousands of acres to explore 3- how in the hell do you plan on affecting this change of developing pace? Chop bolts, implore they come to their senses, pay them not to develop? Clif, I would...

Thanks Peter. Your support is appreciated, as always. Though Clif may not get it, it is good to clarify our purpose and reasoning.

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

yes. the Red needs to make it affordable for the developers to bolt rock regardless of their willingness to pay for their ambitions? Yes, for several reasons. 1) there is no top down bolting policy 2.) the community has a vested interest and direct benefit in using more sustainable materials. 3.) T...

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

It never occurred to me that the answer was so simple! I should have just have pulled the 30 or so developers aside and asked them to slow down, relax a bit, and do the right thing.

Got it. Thanks!

All those combined is how you continually move forward and how a community like that Red has been established and known to be one of the best in the world. Theres a...

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

also, as the link you refer to put it, more or less, 'subsidizing' developers for the reason that the good stuff is too expensive for them on there own seems to be encouraging people with an otherwise ambivalent regard to preservation. 95% of the new development was done with plated bolts prior to ...

Re: 2015 V-day Fixed Gear Fundraiser

thanks for work c2c. your op mentions new routes then the link is more about maintaining old ones, all of which is good. obviously i should give some money and keep my thoughts to myself. i'm just reluctant to perpetuate a status quo that expands available routes and the hordes of new climbers and ...
