Re: Miller Fork : the Tale of a Three Star Area

As someone who has developed around 20 routes in Miller, I have to agree. There are a lot of great climbs, but I have yet to see anything five star. Has anyone even seen a lone 5 star gem, any grade?

It's definitely an arch in the making. Only needs another million years.

Re: AF traveling conservation team visit, trail day

The road is really bad right now. I don't think I would take anything less than a subaru, but if you are one of those master 2wd off-roaders who doesn't mind if they beat up their car, then I say go for it.

Personally I would bring 4wd.

Re: News re Muir Valley

Steve is right on the money. How much do we spend on gear, tents, sleeping bags, patagonia down sweaters and blah blah blah.. if you can't afford 10 bucks a day or 20 even y did you get into such an expensive hobby. Don't get me wrong, i have climbed at muir without a donation on occasion.. but i a...

Say I give $100, $25 goes to Muir, $25 goes to RRGCC, $25 goes to badbolts.com and $25 goes to fighting to get roadside open.
Each time you climb?

Re: News re Muir Valley

The operating costs are too high to sustain. Couldn't $200K be put to use better elsewhere where the ongoing maintenance isn't so costly? Can FOMV rip out all of the costly stuff to make it like the PMRP or Miller Fork? I hate to be pessimistic, but I too have my concerns. It seems to me that the o...

I doesn't need chipped, it just needs a gymnast ring or ladder bolted to the inside of the hueco.

Re: Is a 142ft rope too short for climbing? - beginner

I was lucky enough to have a good core base of friends that climbed and were decently experienced. I would suggest posting on the hooking up forum and let them know that you are new and know nothing for the most part. If you're lucky a group might let you tag along and kinda show you the proper way...
