See, I think people see leaver biners and anchor biners as booty sometimes (not me). Thought that thread talked about that attitude. Maybe it was another site... meh, sorry. the proponents of booty should damn well know the difference between something that helps everyone and something that helped ...

I don't know, maybe I live in a world of fantasy, but here's how I see things: In a couple of weeks I'll be visiting the Red for two weeks. A 16 hour drive from Montreal. With me I'll have a few locking stainless steel biners and a bunch of regular straight-gate biners. All brand new. None of them ...

"a grigri is placed in a newbies hands all the time" - I think in this case, there is a great deal of teaching and practice that is not being done. Not a flaw with the design or function of a device, but how it's taught and used. "Plus my point is that properly trained hands are some of the ones hol...

So I picked up climbing again...a little. And in light of resent events and all the stories I heard in the last couple of year, I am asking myself why we even use these auto-locking belay devices? The stitch-plate type devices like the ATC worked fine for many many years. Then Petzl came out with t...

My primary emphasis was to address the people who have held onto the cam instead of the brake and allowed climbers to deck this way. I have seen it 4 times and know of countless other instances. And to this point....why use a GriGri at all. How many times have you seen a climber deck while being be...

Another thing to consider, especially when belaying at a noisy cliff... If you hear the words "off belay", don't assume it's your climber that said it. Get confirmation before taking action. Sound silly to say, but it happened. I always try to yell out the climber/belayer's name with the command or...

You don't need your hand on the rope at all times with a gri gri--you need yor hand OFF the cam if there is a fall (one way to have your hand off of the cam would be to grab the rope instead). and its this mentallity that causes accidents. most people i watch just hold the cam to feed rope, many w/...

A lot of outdoor pursuits groups do not respect the regulations and requests of landowners and such... be it out of ignorance, indifference, or perception of entitlement... I started to make a pdf that could be sent out to universities in the region to outline some general considerations of which m...

..... BTW, Meadows, you didn't answer the question. Neither have you J.R.. I think that maybe you can't answer.. I'll step in here, not because I want to air dirty laundry but because you keep prodding. Deliberately destroying gates and then removing hinges to rally truck around the property repeat...
