Re: Climbing Gym

For what it's worth, I'd probably still climb at Bluegrass. If you are motivated to get fit for climbing rock, it is more than adequate.

Re: Iniquity vs. Cell Block Six

Sounds like the grade of 5.12 fits pretty well. the abcd system is really goofy. Someone decided that breaking up a number grade into thirds (-/+) wasn't precise enough, so they made it into quarters. Can anyone really feel the difference of 4 levels of difficulty in 5.12? I can't. So you could han...

I think the grade holds if you can slam-dunk the jug. Trick is to have someone hand you the gear sling after you do the jump.

Re: Video shows v1, fa claims v11

Didn't that guy from DPM write an article last week condemning the very accusations he is making this week? Don't get me wrong, I don't know Chris, don't care if he sent anything, and could care less about the boulders in the gunks. But I agree with the DPM guy's original article that demanding sati...

Re: Which Fingers

Inevitably, all discussion pertaining to finger strength pays a visit to the Jura, where one time I pulled a figure four off a ring/pinky gaston pocket.

Yeah, but which one you use for the mono? Ring or Middle?

Re: Supplements for recovery

I'd start off with this: snake oil, whatever comes up first when you google the word 'supplement,' and your own urine. Need to stay supple and hydrated, you know?

Best pre/post climbing meal is a plate of beans and rice.

Recipe: ask your grandma.

Re: Buying first set of cams...

Whatever brand you buy, don't waist money on anything bigger than the Blue BD size, I think it's #3. Big cams are expensive and you'll stop carrying them soon after you buy them, everyone does. Better use of money would be doubles of more often used sizes. this might mean hand or thin hand for the b...

Re: What is the Best thing for a non-climber?

I've been climbing for 12 years and only last month tried out the tread wall. Pretty sweet, but non-essential. Essential to the first couple years of my climbing was climbing with better climbers, and exposing myself to novel situations. Come to think about it, it still is.

Re: January climbing in the gorge

Word on the street is that you can catch a sunny, dry day here and there. That being said, this is my first winter here, and I've not been out since early December. You probably won't regret bringing the kit, but probably will on a sunny day if you leave it behind.

Re: Good Winter Sport Climbing

There is definitely a week or two's worth of sport climbing at Red Rocks. Also quite a bit of bouldering too, though not as popular as Hueco. Also, from Las Vegas its a 5 hour drive to both Bishop and Joshua Tree, if you want some variety. Usually is pretty sunny and not too cold for sport climbing ...
