Re: Show me the Ropes

I'm old, I don't know what a CAI is or why someone would want to add new things to a 98 Civic. Your girlfriend doesn't need a harness, just cut the back seat belt out of the Civic and follow the instructions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJvQwUAl8Nc I'm psyched for you, Chuck. You are going t...

I may be old but this is pure tomfoolery....
I have watched Andrew cover some serious terrain with Adidas flip flops on.

Re: new Rules to Live By

I'd like to give a +1 to number 6.

If we are at a restaurant and I don't hear some type of tone or beep and you pull out your phone and look at it, I'm leaving. This compulsive checking for new texts, apps, email, tweets, status updates, blog comments, etc, etc... is out of control. :)

Re: Knee Stability Exercises

Baloney as long as you have proper instruction. I agree whole heartedly, but I think we can both also agree that getting a thumbs up from a climbing BBS doesn't qualify as proper instruction. Hence my "be careful". :) The author was William Broad. Here is his book: http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/1451...

Re: Knee Stability Exercises

Be careful with bridge, plow, wheel type positions. I recently heard an interview with a long time instructor who said those were among the most common injury scenarios.

Re: Climbing Cost (of a day out)

I rarely take any gas money. We just usually swap turns driving. I'm sure it doesn't work out totally even in the end, but it's fine. Yas is the exception, she will force feed you at least a ten spot if you try to turn it down. Every once in awhile Ben will be playing in the car and find money she's...

Now we have another incentive when trying to goad him into a late day send. First margarita's, now a bump of the good stuff. Perhaps we can get some of Gustavo's blue ice.

Hardest 10a in the red IMO. Just ask bcombs ! Also didn't this route get upgraded from 9+? Haha, I was trying to remember if this was the one we got on or not. Yeah, that was some shenanigans. I don't remember what was interesting about the finish, just me chuffing up there for the e...

Wheatley lives in Cincinnati now and is working on complex statistical analysis on the anatomy of climbers. He's working on a formula that will allow him to flash the entire madness cave.

Re: How long was it before you sent your first 5.12?

I think you're right about the quickest way being to train endurance especially since I drool over twinkie being my first twelve but I want to be climbing 5.12 consistently so I think a more well rounded approach might be better. Jesus, there is another one: http://thegumbytwinkieexperiment.tripod....

Re: How long was it before you sent your first 5.12?

Damn bcombs! How many 5.12's did you climb to put Chainsaw on the "good first one if you have endurance" list? I was just thinking of a 12a that doesn't have any hard moves pe se, you just need to hang on (especially last bolt to the anchors :) ) I guess when you swing out left around the 4th or so...

Re: How long was it before you sent your first 5.12?

4 years, but I was mostly out of shape and just fucking around for the first 2. Once I realized what it would take to climb even a single 12a, I changed the way I trained and mentally prepared for climbing. It wasn't long after that I started cruising through 5.11 and sent a 5.12. I sent that thing ...
