Re: Gear

your original post says you want to shoot for 40-50 feet climbs, but i wouldn't be scared off by longer climbs. often at that grade there are plenty of opportunities to rest because of the angle. just off the top of my head, if you stick to your height range, you'd miss eureka, 27 years of climbing,...

Re: Gym to Crag Suggestions

i mostly agree with the advice whatahutch has given, except where he (? - assuming) says to go with experienced climbers for a year or two -- jesus christ. i think you'd be fine sport climbing on your own after a handful of times with more experienced people. just be sure you can clean routes. like,...

Re: Lost, but found rope. Do you know Tom?

old school, tough guy, hardman trad ethics or not -- that's kind of a shitty approach to life and dealing with other people. oh, sorry you made a mistake, i'm gonna help you learn from it by stealing your shit. i pulled a near brand new draw (full quickdraw!) off a climb the other day which i was ps...

Re: Attention New School climbers

dear op, you respect the grades that sport climbers are putting up but you "hate" sport climbing? seems like a weird thing to hate. like, for instance, i hate inequality, intolerance, racism, rape, and suffering in the world. also, nuts in brownies. fuck that. but, sport climbing? why do you hate sp...

Re: List number of bolts in tables

i've never understood why people care about the bolt count. if it's short, bring 8. long, bring 12. really long, bring 15. if in doubt bring some extras. if you might not have enough do another rock climb or run it out.

just solved the bolt count problem. you're welcome.

Re: Top Routes for the Grade at the RRG

pogue ethics is a much better rock climb than creature feature, imo. creature feature is two bolts of awkward, polished slab to 3-4 fun roof-ish moves, to walking up a jug ladder. pogue ethics on the other hand is a beautiful, long line with interesting holds and terrific movement really from start ...

Re: Favorite sub 12 route in the red.

i agree that bathtub mary is fun, but i've never been able to figure out why that one gets so much love while picador sits right next door and is just as good, if not better. i think the slab on picador is more thoughtful, that the moves getting into the hueco are more fun (mantle!!!), and that the ...

Re: Favorite sub 12 route in the red.

so many good ones. won't mention them all, but i do think that there are two over-looked easier routes that deserve five stars. pogue ethics and bandolier. i think pogue ethics is easily better than all the other classic sub-10 routes (27 years, eureka, creature feature, etc.). a few thin plates (an...

Re: What's the most underrated moderate?

agree with waterfall ballet (shawnee shelter). definitely deserves more than two stars. i also thought special k (hideout) was a really cool route. tough, bouldery start (if you start under the bolt) to really cool, thoughtful climbing on holds that take a little body positioning to feel good (slope...

Re: Sporty sport lines allowed?

I agree with that. Bolters shouldn't have to worry about someone getting in over their head. If you don't know how to fall and don't have a competent belayer you shouldn't even be climbing but isn't the point of sport climbing to push the barriers of one's ability? projecting routes and what not?
