I've been meaning to post about the "climber" I saw at Roadside .10 wall awhile back... one guy had forgotten to bring his harness so he fashioned one out of a single dyneema sling and used quickdraws as leg loops... He was belaying with that contraption; didn't see him lead with it. Interesting to say the least.

At a crag in boulder canyon last weekend there were some gumbies toproping a some slabs. One of them had bought a couple of cams and was obsessed with using them to directionalize the toprope (totally unnecessary of course). When one of the climbers fell, it put tension on the directional, which was apparently place behind a big loose block. The block pulled out and almost killed the belayer. They didn't seem to realize how dangerous it was.

Then, I overheard a conversation where one of the gumbies said, "What's trad climbing?".
Answer: "That's where you put directionals all the way up."

Run away.

cliftongifford wrote:your draws most definitely should match your rope... it's just not fashionable to have clashing colors on your rack. the worst mistake I see climbers making today is that their helmet (if they're wearing one) hardly ever matches their shoes! I just can't believe it! How could you send anything without matching the color of your shoes with your helmet? Also, many climbers are wearing bland colors these days, like brown and earthy green. And I am sick of it! Climbing is a vibrant sport and people should express themselves with vibrant colors!! what is wrong with these people?
dude, you ARE talking to a bunch of junior high rejects who wear jeans to climb because they think they are 80's skateboarders....jeans climbing? totally proves you are there for the fashion show and not the function.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.

Pig, I think you were just proven wrong... If Chuck Norris wears them while kicking ass, it's surely ok to wear Action Jeans rock climbing.
