Cops setting up checkpoints

Post by milspecmark » Tue Mar 26, 2013 10:15 am

Just a heads up. I went through another checkpoint this weekend on Chimney top road. These seem to be big revenue generators for the cops, the tow truck driver, the courts, and the local attorney. They ask for a drivers license and insurance. Make sure you have an up to date insurance card and a valid drivers license or you will be messed with. We saw a small group of climbers pulled out of their vehicle because they did not have an updated insurance card. They yanked the license plate off the car and sent in a tow truck. What a pain in the ass. Just wanted to let you all know to be prepared with the right documents because you will have a much better day if you get snagged.

Thank you law enforcement, please remove unlicensed and uninsured drivers from the public roadways.

That's not all they're checking for, so be careful what you're driving around with in your car (or your bloodstream), if ya know what I mean. Lately they have been occasionally sporting those cute little doggies with the well-trained nosies as well.

Sounds like typical DBNF bullshit: harass the people who go out of their way to enjoy the Red.

In addition to DBNF, I have been stopped a few times on 11 in the southern region too. My friend had to spend an entire day dealing with a summons at the county courthouse in Campton, the horror! Just a headsup with the RRR coming this weekend...

Damn, I did not know that they could do that! I frequently forget to print out up-to-date ins. cards, and usually if I get pulled over, they just give me a ticket requiring my ins. to send the court a document.

They are always good for that. I have had 2 problems with drinking run ins with the park rangers. Both times the rangers were dick heads. The first time happened on tunnel ridge rd. It was the 1st time I had ever been to the gorge 5 years ago and was not camping 300 feet from the trail. They stormed our campsite, made us poor out our beer and threatened us with blah blah blah. The second time was at whittleton campground. The ranger was really mean at first and radioed us in. We were very polite, yes sir, no sir, etc. Then he said that he had to act this way to us because he is required to. He continued to tell us that as long as you keep it in a cup you will be fine. They just don't want to see it. Ever since then I have always put it in a cup and I have never had a problem since.

I know someone who has his ins. card with him, but not in his glove box. He was issued a citation.

Basically, they will use any possible citation as an excuse to let the dogs sniff your car. If everything is up to date and in order they will let you pass.

Great, now the state is not supporting two of the biggest revenue producers for the area.

They hate when they run a plate and a CCDW comes up - pisses them off, so be sure to tell them what you got where.
