Hip Excercises

What are your favorite/best hip exercises?

My hip is acting up again. Climbing may or may not be related, but once it hurts it definitely affects my ability to climb. Looking for ideas from those of you that may also suffer from similar issues.

It hurts. Mostly on the outside. Hurts bad when hiking with a pack. Can't really sleep in my side either

I had to go to physical therapy because of a piriformus muscle (probably misspelled) and they showed me ways to stretch so it would stop it from causing the incorrect rotation of my legs. It was aggrivated by my running and took all spring to finally get under control. There are several stretches that you can do but they should be done for five minutes because of the size and length of the muscle.

Sounds about right. Thanks. The internet continues to be a better resource than the dr's office.
Last time i went to a dr for hip pain he did xrays and then gave me no real recommendations otherthan to stop drinking and smoking. I should have burned down his office.

did you stop smoking and drinking...if not, how do you know his advice was lame?

I forgot to mention this doctor also recommended leaning to the right when I complained about the left leg being longer and causing the pain. I have not tried that either.

lol...now that I like...my grandma had one leg about 3 inches shorter than the other and always walked on her tippy toe....

Well i will suggest you some exercises the same problem is one of the my best friend and he is doing daily yoga 40 minutes, and 5 laps of swimming now his hips are normal.So try it must.
