Tendonitis?

Post by littleboxes15 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 10:17 am

So I was climbing last night and the weirdest thing happened. I felt a popping sensation in my right wrist and then my middle finger numb. It scared the crap out of me so I stopped climbing right away, but it still hurts a little. Any pearls of wisdom you all have that might be able to shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated. Especially if they come in the form of whether or not it's okay to climb at Rocktober Fest this weekend. Thanks

1. On your finger, rub an ice cube on the injured vigorously until it hurts (as taught to me by Pig's better/smarter half, a hand therapist). I rub it further with warming massage oil right after.

2. Don't climb for awhile.

3. Ibuprophen

4. When you start back to climbing, tape, tape, tape!!!

Thanks for the advice, Meadows. Just out of curiosity what's the ice for?

I imagine that if something popped, you have swelling and icing reduces it. Rereading your message, I see that you hurt your wrist though (ice there). I heard that your mom is an MD so she might better explain it why.

Also, tendons in your finger run all the way up through your arms and that is probably why your finger went numb.

Either way, time off is mandatory.

When we're on the subject of my aches and pains, does any one have a good hangover cure? I was so depressed about the idea of not being able to climb this weekend that I cracked open a 5th of rum, had 4 maybe 5 shots, and then went to Two Keys. Now my whole body is rebeling, especially my stomach.

I think the vegemite on toast cure sounds the best (Gross).

Tried and true hangover cure...waffle house (greasy carbs with coffee). Carbs to soak up the alcohol, grease to coat your stomach and coffee to kill the headache.

There is a chance you may throw up after consuming all of this food, but that will make you feel better too.

I did something similar, but I dont really know if not climbing is going to help.

I felt a pop/twang in my palm, then my hand and elbow were tingly and barely numb for the next 24 hours with some tendinitis soreness in my elbow. After that I could not even tell it happend. No pain or anything.

Would I be wrong to guess that a tendond just snapped and there is nothing I can do about it. Hope it wasnt an important one.

Any thoughts?

Caspian
I don't think anything snapped. It was more like when you pluck a really really thick guitar string. There was a kind of vibration. Either way it feels fine now. I might even make it to Rocktober Fest after all.

:D Yeah I do! I took your advice too, only it was Tolly Ho not Waffle House. Yummy.

I suggest bacon and eggs from a greasy truck stop. if you can hold that down your hangover will be fine after gatoraid. If not your to worried about how much worse you now feel to care about your pounding head.
