I thought the same thing c2c...seems as though it would be the place we wanted to proudly show off when asking for more money.

Coal Bank was wide open for parking Saturday and has better climbing anyway. Sore Heel was open too, they simply asked that you don't park in the upper lot during the comp. I never heard of or sensed any discouragement towards people climbing there who were not participating in the competition.

By asking people not to park there, you are discouraging them from climbing there. I chose to go to Muir as I had an Evolv marketing manager with me and wanted to showcase the Muir. However, if you look at where the minions went Saturday it is clear that the public felt climbing out of Sore Heel was highly discouraged.

They could have easily of closed down part of it for the comp, or opened it up after say 10 am.

Fair enough. More importantly, did the Evolv guy drop a twenty in the donation box?

We showed up at the sore heel lot late Saturday morning. No problem parking at the bottom of the hill. Saw Rick too and he was very cool. #nbd

Was at military and purgatory on sunday. While the lots were pretty full I did not have to wait on a single climb all day. Seemed a lot of the crowd at military/left flank were not climbers.

At North 40 I got on an 5.11- called Amarillo Sunset, there was no line but some dudes showed up as I was cleaning it. And got on a 5.11 climb called Yosemite Sam, and there was no one on that side of the gulley the whole time we were there.

Military's 5.12 wall climbs like Fuzzy Undercling and Tissue Tiger got consistent traffic, more than even the easier climbs downhill. There was smattering of mutant climbers on the more difficult Nagypapa, but nothing as heinous as the clinic under Tissue Tiger (most heartbreaker climb for the grade.. that could be a decent thread).

Well, you guys were climbing in the PMRP and parked at Sore Heel. The masses were told not to park there. Not judging, but just saying that it would partially explain Saturday. As for Military being light... I got nuthin

One day out of the year people were discouraged from parking there. The people who paid for the clinics had a really good time and helped pay for the PMRP- if you're pissed that you couldn't climb there- you should have signed up for the comp or hiked the extra 5 minutes and parked somewhere else. Or- here's an idea- climb there the other 364 days out of the year. The comp was $15 to have a chance at winning awesome prizes (thanks to the sponsors). If people didn't pay up or walk then they have only themselves to blame- the opportunities were available.

Was in the first of two groups at Jewel Pinnacle Saturday, then Eastern Sky Bridge which was no more crowded than usual on Saturday and Sunday morning. Phantasia on Sunday evening was a zoo as expected with lines 10 deep for creature feature and pogue ethics but we still managed to do get on two sport lines with out waiting. An average weekend of climbing but an exceptional one overall thanks to Rocktoberfestivities. 23 String Band killed it!
