All My Gear was stolen...

Post by jordancolburn » Sat Jul 25, 2009 11:42 am

My car got broken into last night, and I woke up to find all my climbing gear gone. The thing that really pisses me off is that it will probably be useless, as most car theives wouldn't even know what it is.

I know it's a longshot, but just in case somebody sees someone selling gear really cheap or knows someone who got too good of a deal on my "used" gear, PM and let me know, thanks for your help.

A portion of what's missing
-Vaude Magic Rock 35 backpack, Red and Black w/ camelback
-Green pack with gear in it
-beal edlinger 10.2 rope, purple about a year and a half old
-BD red and black rope bag

-Black Diamond Camalots .4-3
-Black Diamond Nuts 4-13
-a few random BD hexes
-Pink and Red Tricam
-Gri gri(red i think)
-BD Atc(orange)
-assorted locking biners
-8 madrock red and silver draws
-5 petzl spirit draws, 3 from '06, 2 brand new '09
-BD nut tool
-old green harness with no waist loops
-old mythos shoes
-resuce eight(my dad's, don't ask)

All the trad gear is on a handmade BRIGHT orange sling.

On the plus side they left me my guidebook, shoes, chalk, harness, and crash pad(don't think they knew what it was).

sorry that really sucks, I was given the impression that most car insurance will cover for stolen property from a locked vehicle although I suspect if there is a big deductible you may not gain much

I would ask Rob at Rocksport and the crew at Hesters to keep a watch for it - sometimes they come in and try to sell it. Have you made a police report? The play it again stores might also be a good place to look around.

Were you in the Red. My wife, back when she climbed had all her stuff stolen out of her truck while she was climbing. So she had her gear.

I am sorry you lost it no matter where you are at.

I lived near third street in louisville, between churchill downs and the waterson. The worst part is I lived there all summer and moved out today, it happened the last night I was there. Well the real worst part is that its my birthday, but anyway.

Thanks for the tips about rocksport and hesters, i'm calling them up right now.

sorry to hear about everyone else's gear loss stories too.

Bummer dude, If you have time, check all the dumpsters around in your area. alot of time those guys throw the shit away if they dont think they can sell it quick. I have found some of my stolen gear in and around dumpsters before. I have also had my car stolen with all my drilling and climbing equipment. sucks man if theres anything I can do from C-bus let me know.

Check pawn shops in few days. Don't mention you're looking for your stolen gear! Tell them you used to climb years ago but had to sell your stuff. Now you'd like to take it up again but with the economy you don't have the money for new equipment. Good luck. Alot of the 'cash for checks' places do the pawn thing these days too.

Car insurance will not pay for personal items in your vehicle. Your homeowner's or renters insurance is where you need to make the claim. There may be an issue if the car was unlocked, but definitly file a policy report. If the car was locked, any damage to the vehicle as a result of the breakin would be paid under your car insurance.

Thanks for all the tips guys! No damage to the vehicle, luckily, but i'm pretty sure I unlocked the car for them, my alarm goes off if thunder hits close by, and I thought that was what caused it, so i silenced it, but i think i just granted the theives access. I think homeowners covers it, but with a thousand dollar deductible, i'll be just barely over the limit to even get anything back.
