Carpal Tunnel

I have recently been having periodic minor numbness in my fingers at night and it has gotten worse. Also, I think I strained a flexor tendon in my right hand, which pushed it over the top.

I just got some braces for my wrists, but I am also looking for recommendations for stretches, exercises, or massage that has relieved carpal tunnel issues?

Also, has anyone climbed through this, or do I have to just stop for a while?

For anyone else that has this issue, here is an update:

  • Sleeping with contorted wrists was the primary issue
  • Get wrist braces with neutral positioning and stabilizers on both the top and bottom of wrist.
  • Wear them at night and when you are at a computer for long periods.
  • Do wrist stretches
  • Climbing did not aggravate it for me
  • Manual labor did aggravate it
  • See a doctor is stretching & braces does not help as nerve damage may result

Of course manual labor would aggravate it but climbing didn't! Reminds me of a girl who used to work at a gym I went to. She had a "heart condition" that would cripple her during mopping or vacuuming or even standing during her shifts. But she would come in the next day and climb V7! Maybe Jesus wants us to climb? Cause he's obviously healing everyone who climbs!

it may be in your carpal tunnel, but there are other place for the median nerve to be impinged along the path. Those other areas (right below the elbow on the flexor side of the forearm and in-between the first rib and the clavicle) are two areas often stressed and over used in climbing. I do Orthopedic massage and work with people with those symptoms a lot. Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions.
